The Jaguar Club

On April 3, 2010 at Santos Party House in New York, the Brooklyn-based band The Jaguar Club opened for Irish rockers Ash.  Though they site Echo and The Bunnymen, The Smiths and Talking Heads as influences, I was getting a Jeff Buckley meets Jim Morrison vibe from charismatic lead singer Will Popadic.  Their brief 30 minute set was upbeat and the crowd was left begging for more as they left the stage.  I think this band has the potential to be a huge success and it was really great seeing them live in the intimate space at Santos Party House.  If you want to check them out for yourself, which I highly recommend, click here and you can grab free mp3s of their tracks “Sleepwalking,” “World Gone By,” “This Year,” and “Who Says We’re The Last.”  Of course after hearing those songs, you will want more and at that same link you can also purchase their music.  I am looking forward to hearing big things about this band in the very near future.

Tim Wheeler of Ash.

On April 3, 2010, Irish rockers Ash played a really intimate show at Santos Party House in New York.  Lead singer Tim Wheeler announced that this was the first show they’ve played in New York in over two years and the sold out crowd was loving every second of it.  The band took us through hits such as “Shining Light” and “A Life Less Ordinary” to new tracks like “Arcadia” and “The Dead Disciples.”  Ash are currently doing a really cool project called “Singles A-Z” where every two weeks, they are releasing a new song both in electronic format and as a vinyl single.  As if the show wasn’t rockin’ enough, Russell Lissack from Bloc Party joined the band for his first performance with the band.  He’ll also be accompanying them on their upcoming UK tour.  I have to admit, I knew very little about the band prior to attending the show and like all great rock stars, they did their job by turning me into a fan long before the night was over.

Ash!
