Janelle Monae and G

After Janelle Monae’s triumphant sold-out show at New York’s Highline Ballroom on April 8, 2010, I was lucky enough to go backstage and meet the fabulously talented singer.  She was nice enough to pose for a picture with me.  It slipped my mind to ask her to confirm the rumours that she just recorded some tracks at Paisley Park last week with Prince, but if the two of them have collaborated, it’s sure to be funky!  Thanks Janelle for taking this photo and I am looking forward to The ArchAndroid on May 18, 2010.

Donnis and G.

On April 8, 2010 moments after warming up the sold-out crowd for Janelle Monae at the Highline Ballroom in New York, I met MC and rapper Donnis.  The Atlanta rapper has just been signed to Atlantic records and he’s been working with Kardinal Offishal and Estelle for his debut “Past Visions of the Future.”  While there is no release date for the record as of this writing, you can download a free mixtape mp3 called “Diary of an ATL Brave” here.  I think the future of hip-hop is resting on Donnis’ shoulders.  Thanks for being super funky and super cool Donnis!

Janelle Monae

On April 8, 2010 R&B singer Janelle Monae performed a sold-out show at New York’s Highline Ballroom.  This is my third time seeing her  and she’s just as great this time around. Janelle Monae gave us a preview of her upcoming album “The ArchAndroid” which is due for release on May 18, 2010.  If the album is anything like her show, the album is going to be a great mix of funk and soul.  She can sing and dance and put on a great show that left the audience begging for more. Her debut album was a favorite among critics but it didn’t fare too well on the charts.  I think that’s about to change any second now.
