OCMC!

Last year, I was lucky enough to interview artist OCMC (Oh Captain My Captain), and aside from seeing his art on the streets, I had not had the opportunity to see his art in a gallery setting.  Good news for all of us!  OCMC is showing his latest works at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

The School of Visual Arts is located at 209 East 23rd Street in Manhattan.  The exhibit will run throughout February 2012.

Art Show 2011 – MBW

Here’s a list of my favorite exhibits that I saw in 2011.  I would also like to honorably mention “Art in the Streets” which I saw in Los Angeles as well as the gallery Lab Art (also in Los Angeles), where they serve you street art in an all you can eat sort of way!   There are many more exhibits that are not mentioned on this list, but rest assured, if it was covered on According2g, I liked it!  As I saw at least 500 exhibitions this year, there’s a good chance I know what I am talking about.  Let us know what moved you this year.

Ari Lankin

Ari Lankin

We’d like to wish a very special happy birthday to artist Ari Lankin today!  Ari’s art is great.  He is a master of many styles and as you can see above, his abstract paintings are both colorful and will give you endless viewing pleasure.  You should definitely check out Ari Lankin’s official site as he often shows “process videos” where you can see a time-lapsed video that covers the inception to completion of selected paintings.  I am fascinated by the videos as he often starts a painting in one direction and by the time it’s finished, it has taken a radically different direction. On a personal note, I’ve been lucky enough to visit Ari’s Manhattan studio and he is such a cool guy who in addition to being incredibly talented, is extremely cultured as well.  Love ya man!  Have a great birthday!

Crochet Artist Olek Detained in London – She Needs Your Help!

Art by Olek.

A scene from “Knitting is For Pussies” by Olek.

Art lovers, I am afraid I have some bad news!  I received an email from our favorite crochet artist, Olek and she’s been detained in London.  She forwarded the following statement issued by her legal counsel in the UK:

Olek recently arrived in London in order to fulfill a variety of professional engagements; the first of which was to donate a piece of art work to a charitable organization. On October 6th after donating a piece of her art to the charity at a show in London, Olek was involved in an incident with a drunk and aggressive male who behaved reprehensibly. The incident happened extremely quickly and not knowing anyone in London or able to access her cell phone for numbers she was swept up into the legal system and treated very poorly. This has resulted in very serious charges being leveled against her which she strenuously denies. She has not even had the chance to state her case before a Court and she must await a statutory timetable before she can present her case properly.

She has now been fortunate enough to be referred on to an appropriate lawyer to defend her against these entirely false allegations, but effective legal representation in cases like this comes at a cost. Today, she needs your help to assist her to get through this terrible and unfair ordeal. At the moment she is facing serious charges with a risk of custody if she is not represented properly and able to expose the untruths and falsehoods in the allegations made against her.

Can you help?

What can you do to help?  Olek has set up the website www.olekappeal.com to accept any charitable donations.  If only every person who has ever enjoyed her art donates $1, Olek will be able to pay for these legal fees that she is faced with.  To sweeten the pot, by donating money, you can get some limited edition art from Olek.  Please spread the word and donate whatever you can, no matter how small.

We’re rooting for you Olek and we wish you a fast and speedy return to New York!

Watch this space for updates as they are available.

TEAM OLEK!

Beverly Fishman at Galerie Richard in NYC. Now showing through January 28, 2012

Do not adjust your eyes!  If you love psychedelic art, you will love Beverly Fishman’s self-titled exhibit at Galerie Richard in New York.  Beverly Fishman’s paintings are different configurations of polished stainless steel with visual fields woven from neural imagery, sound waves and other technological data.

In addition to the eye popping paintings, you will also see “Pill Spill,” which are 90 unique glass capsules that look like they might be mind altering drugs.  You cannot possibly see all the vivid detail in these photos, so I urge you to look upon these works with your naked eye.

Beverly Fishman

Galerie Richard is located at 514 West 24th Street in New York.  Beverly Fishman’s exhibit runs until January 28, 2012.

This exhibit is a cool trip for the eyes and senses!  Don’t miss it!
