For the last 14 years, Broadway and film stars turn up in Shubert Alley in New York for Broadway Barks, the annual adopt-a-thon created to find homes for pets from city animal shelters. I hung out to watch the stars arrive and as you will see above and below, I had quite a magical day meeting some truly amazing people.

Though I’ve been fortunate to meet legendary dancer and actor Ben Vereen many times – and on both the east and west coast, my favorite memory is running into him after seeing another modern dance legend – Savion Glover. Ben was supercool and it made for a very surreal moment! Happy birthday Ben!
Also born today: rocker David Lee Roth and jazz great Thelonious Monk

On June 28, 2010 after seeing an amazing performance of Savion Glover’s latest show “Sole Power” at the Joyce Theater, legend of dance and the silver screen, Mr. Ben Vereen was in attendance! Ben Vereen won a Tony Award for “Pippin” in 1973 and has starred in films such as “Sweet Charity” and “All That Jazz.” His latest show “Mama, I Want To Sing!,” is due to hit the Broadway stage later in 2010. He was extremely nice when I approached him to take a photo and I thank him kindly for the opportunity.
