The Rassle

It’s always a pleasure to see The Rassle live!  Playing a headlining show at the Bowery Electric for the CMJ music marathon on October 20, 2010, The Rassle took the stage just after midnight.  This is my second time seeing them live and I think they are getting better and better with each performance.  Their music is insanely catchy (think MGMT with a bit more rock and roll) and their songs are ready to be sung in stadiums.  The Rassle has recently been featured in a J. Crew advertisement and positive reviews are spreading like wildfire across the internet.  I was so pleased to spot many record executives in the packed house and I am sure whatever offers come their way, the Rassle will continue to dazzle for years to come!  I spoke with the guys after their set, to once again profess my love for their music and they were all very cool.  It turns out they all read my “Encounter with The Rassle” article where I told them all about how much I adore their song “Born Free.”  It was a huge honor to know they saw it and it was cool to let them know I meant every word!  On October 23, 2010, you have another chance to see The Rassle live at Bowery Electric and I suggest you check them out at a small venue while you still can.  These guys are going to be huge!  Stay tuned for a live video of “Wild Ones,” which was recently featured in ad campaigns for J. Crew.

Moments after their show stealing performance at the Mercury Lounge on September 15, 2010, I met The Rassle!  I have been in love with their music ever since they offered their debut EP for free on their official site earlier this year. When I spoke with the band, I told them each how much I love their music and I also recounted my story 4 separate times of my recent trip to Los Angeles where I had some magical moments driving on the freeway with the windows rolled down blasting their track “Born Free.”  I’m really looking forward to hearing their debut album which will most likely be out in early 2011.  If you want to be known amongst your friends as a taste-maker, slip their songs into your mixtapes and get ready for everyone to say “What is this song?  I love it!”  Thanks again to The Rassle for making such great music, for all being so cool and for not rolling their eyes at me when I became a little fan boy telling them how much I love their music.  I’ll be looking for their names at the top of the music charts.

The Rassle

A few months ago, I turned you on to a free 4-track EP by New York based indie rockers The Rassle.  Since then, the blog-o-sphere has been buzzing about this band and for great reason.  I am loving their EP so much and I have been very excited to see them in concert.  On September 15, 2010, I got my wish and I got to see The Rassle play a very intimate show at New York’s Mercury Lounge.  They performed their entire EP as well as a new song that has not been released yet.  I am very happy to say they rocked live as much as they do on record.

Their music to me sounds like a much more rockin’ version of MGMT and when I hear their songs, I can easily envision a stadium full of people singing along in unison.  I am not a betting man, but if I were, I’d say that you are going to be hearing a lot more from The Rassle in the very near future.  Front man Blair Van Nort has a great stage presence and the crowd was loving every second.  I nearly lost control when they played my favorite song “Born Free,” but I held it together so I could take a video and share it with you.  Stay tuned for that, it’s great!  I met the band after their set and I gushed to each member how much I love their music.  I’ll be posting pictures of my encounter with the band soon.  I cannot wait for them to become household names!  If you are in the New York area, they are playing at Webster Hall on September 17, 2010.  You can get tickets at this link.  Don’t miss your chance to see this band before they become huge!

The Rassle dazzles!
