California based rockers Owl came to New York last night and played the Bowery Electric on May 19, 2013. Moments before the show started, technical problems at the venue threatened the gig, but luckily the Bowery Electric was able to pull it together in time so that Owl could end our weekends on a rockin’ note. If you are unfamiliar with Owl’s music, you’d not leave one of their gigs disappointed if you like The Cult (of which lead singer Chris Wyse works with them) or Alice in Chains. One of the highlights of their hour long set was the interaction between lead singer Chris Wyse and guitarist Jason Achilles Mezilis. During many songs, Wyse and Mezilis traded guitar and bass licks back and forth and the non-verbal conversation went over really well with the packed house at Bowery Electric.
You can stream Owl’s latest album “The Right Thing” on their official website. The link will open in a new window. Thanks Owl for a great night. I had a hoot! (OK, that was a bad pun even for me).
Electro band Future Relative is the first group to step up to the plate and donate the proceeds of their upcoming show to aid Japan with its recent disasters. The group will be performing at New York’s Bowery Electric on March 24, 2011. See some great live music and help a really great cause all at the same time. Tickets will be available at this link very soon.
New Yorkers! Get your hip little buns over to Bowery Electric tonight, November 19, 2010 to see one of the hottest bands on the planet, The Rassle, for FREE! I’m told they hit the stage around 9:00 pm. It’s also bass player Mark Solomich’s birthday today, so as you can imagine, tonight’s show is going to be one hell of a party! Happy birthday Mark (pictured in red above)! A fun fact about the birthday boy who was born free – he and his band are moving full speed ahead!
There’s no doubt that The Rassle were one of the highlights of the CMJ music festival that was in New York last week. I have every confidence that The Rassle are going to be a great success. They performed a triumphant show at Bowery Electric on October 20, 2010 and at that show, they performed their song “Wild Ones,” which was recently featured in an ad campaign by J. Crew! Expect big things from this band! Kudos lads!
It’s always a pleasure to see The Rassle live! Playing a headlining show at the Bowery Electric for the CMJ music marathon on October 20, 2010, The Rassle took the stage just after midnight. This is my second time seeing them live and I think they are getting better and better with each performance. Their music is insanely catchy (think MGMT with a bit more rock and roll) and their songs are ready to be sung in stadiums. The Rassle has recently been featured in a J. Crew advertisement and positive reviews are spreading like wildfire across the internet. I was so pleased to spot many record executives in the packed house and I am sure whatever offers come their way, the Rassle will continue to dazzle for years to come! I spoke with the guys after their set, to once again profess my love for their music and they were all very cool. It turns out they all read my “Encounter with The Rassle” article where I told them all about how much I adore their song “Born Free.” It was a huge honor to know they saw it and it was cool to let them know I meant every word! On October 23, 2010, you have another chance to see The Rassle live at Bowery Electric and I suggest you check them out at a small venue while you still can. These guys are going to be huge! Stay tuned for a live video of “Wild Ones,” which was recently featured in ad campaigns for J. Crew.
