Cody Critcheloe of Ssion
Ssion! If you don’t know this dance/punk performance art collective and band from Kansas City, you’d better put them on your radar immediately… but only if you enjoy seeing a band that will keep you dancing all night while you watch extremely trippy visuals on the screens behind them as they perform tracks that are both funky and rockin’. Lead by Cody Critcheloe, Ssion (pronounced “shun”) played the first of 3 nights at the Museum of Modern Art PS1 in Queens. Ssion is previewing new tracks from their upcoming album “Bent,” which will be released in July, 2011. Cody Critcheloe is a little bit Freddie Mercury, a little bit Jake Shears and a whole lot of entertaining! He danced all night long, and had drag queens and cross dressers dancing on stage with him to make the evening more wild. Perhaps best of all, Casey Spooner of Fisherspooner was a special guest and he welcomed the Spring to New York by wearing slightly more than a smile (see a picture after the jump).
The crowd was dressed to the nines and the museum was packed. One thing was clear – everyone was there for one reason only: to have a great time. This show is definitely a contender for one of the best shows I’ve seen in 2011. It combined art and music perfectly and was fun from start to finish. If you missed this show, it is a pity, but you have two more chances to catch Ssion at PS1. They’ll be performing on May 14 and 15, 2011 and you can get tickets in the link above. The show begins around 9 pm and I highly recommend you see it.
See more pictures after the jump including Casey Spooner wearing very little and the gratuitous armpit hair shot of Cody(for my gays), the set list and a photo from my backstage encounter with Cody Critcheloe.

Happy birthday to singer Casey Spooner! He’s one half of the electronic duo Fischerspooner and he has just released a solo record called “Adult Contemporary.” You can get the album through his official website and while you’re there, pick up a free download of the track “Faye Dunaway.” Happy birthday Casey!

Grab a towel and watch Casey Spooner’s NSFCMP (not safe for closed minded people) video “Spanish Teenager,” a duet with Scissor Sisters’ lead singer, Jake Shears. You can see the video here. Schwing!

Casey Spooner and G
Prior to Casey Spooner’s awesome solo set at Terminal 5 in New York, I met the singer on August 24, 2010. The man with perpetually great hair and one half of the electronic duo Fischerspooner, was extremely nice during our brief encounter. I arrived at the venue a bit on the early side to secure my front row center spot to see Casey and Scissor Sisters (which I ended up getting) and Casey Spooner said “Wow, you are here early.” I replied that I was a “psycho fan,” and he laughed. Thanks again Casey for being so nice and I am looking forward to “Adult Contemporary,” his solo album that will be out before the end of 2010.

Casey Spooner, half of the electronic duo Fischerspooner, received a call from Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters a few days ago. Jake asked if Casey would like to open for the band on their North American Tour. Casey was up to the challenge even though he had no rehearsal time. He had just finished recording a batch of songs for an upcoming solo CD called “Adult Contemporary” and decided to treat these shows as a rehearsal. Well, he could have fooled the sold out crowd at New York’s Terminal 5 on August 24, 2010. His songs were great and they sounded well polished. Hitting the stage at 8 pm, he performed in front of a white sheer curtain with a spotlight on him and he wore a suit that made him look extra gorgeous. Some of the songs he sang included “Cinnamon Toast,” where he professed that everything is ok as long as he has it. He also sang a track called “RSVP,” that basically dealt with the fact that he wants to be included on every guest list – just in case – but he’d prefer to stay in, with his cats, eating Thai food and watching “True Blood.” Sometimes, you can’t argue with that logic. He also sang a song that Jake Shears will be singing on for the studio version, but we were treated to Casey’s solo version tonight. I met Casey prior to the show and he was extremely nice. More on my encounter with Casey Spooner coming soon. His solo album should be released in the fall and based on the live renditions, it’s going to be great!
"How much do I love According2g? This much!"
Before and after Casey Spooner rocked the crowd, we were treated to DJ sets by the one and only Sammy Jo.
