If you are a lover of street art, the show is definitely worth checking out.  If you are a collector of street art, you’re not going to be too fond of this show.  Some of these doctored photo canvases are selling for upwards of $8,000!  Is the gallery delusional or are they just trying to capitalize on the stupidity of inexperienced buyers?  I am not really sure which it is but I assure you if $8,000 is your contemporary/street art budget, I can hook you up for that kind of money.  Hell, you can get some type of work of art from Banksy, arguably the most famous street artist in the world, for a cheaper price!

Not all prices in the gallery will make your butt hole hurt, however.  I invite you to form your own opinion at the Dorien Grey Gallery, located at 437 East 9th Street at Avenue A.

Screwtape

Art by Screwtape. Reasonably priced!

“Street Artists Unite!” runs through August 5, 2012.

Up Close and Personal opens May 12th from 7-9pm. It will also be open from 7-9pm on the 13th; noon-9pm and noon-7pm on the 14th and 15th respectively.   The show is taking place at 217 West 106th Street, Apartment 1A, in New York– Between Broadway and Amsterdam Avenues.  I’ve been a big fan of Vandalog for a while and it was really cool to have a chance to speak with RJ Rushmore who runs the site.  As you can expect, he is an encyclopedia of street art and was more than happy to chat with me about our mutual love for the genre.

The show closes on May 15, 2011, so you only have one more day to check it out.
