Will Ryman’s latest exhibit “America” at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York is really cool.  Situated in the middle of the gallery space is a massive log cabin – painted gold!

As you make your way around the corner, you can poke your head into the window and door way of the golden log cabin.  Once inside, if your mind hasn’t already been blown, it will be when you see the interior of the cabin.

All over the walls, ceiling and floor are car parts, railroad parts, cotton, computer parts, corn, coal, bullets, arrowheads, chains, shackles and wood and the detail is so great.  These pictures cannot capture the magnitude of how many of these objects are actually in the room.

Below, in the back part of the gallery, a few additional works including a flag made partially from bullets can be seen.

New York!  Head over to Last Rites Gallery for a pair of cool exhibitions.  First up is “Taking Over” by Sarah Joncas.  This is Sarah’s second exhibit at the gallery and it features 14 new paintings and one drawing.  The figures she draws embrace the dark side of life and all appear to have an interesting back story that will leave you wondering where these people came from.

Also featured is Chris Haas’ “Waking the Dead” which are the coolest animal skulls you’ll ever see.  It’s hard to see the details in these photos (read: go to Last Rites and see them in person!) but each one is so ornate, they look like the remains of a magical breed of animals.
