Miley Cyrus riding a hot dog!

Miley Cyrus riding a hot dog!

Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d say:  I went to the Miley Cyrus concert and loved it!  Despite thinking her music is largely terrible (and the show did little to change my mind on that), her performance was excellent.  From LSD-inspired trippy visuals, to midgets running around on stage to covering songs by Lana Del Rey, Bob Dylan, Coldplay and Dolly Parton (see below for a video of her covering Dolly Parton’s “Jolene”), to twerking on top of a gold-plated car to riding around on a flying hot dog, which has now set the bar higher for every performer that comes after her, you can say a lot of things about Miley Cyrus (like ‘it seems kind of pervy that we are forced to look at her body that looks like she is 10 years younger than her actual age’), but you cannot say she doesn’t give a hell of a show.  More photos from her sold out concert at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on April 5, 2014 will be coming soon, but for now, enjoy her cover of “Jolene” by Dolly Parton.

Andre Cymone

Andre Cymone

After a 20 year absence from the stage, the always funky Andre Cymone made his return to New York on March 31, 2014 at Bowery Electric.  Andre Cymone, along with Prince, was a pioneer in the Minneapolis Sound that so many people have emulated over the years, was once married to Jody Watley and has produced hits for Adam Ant.  Now he’s back after a long hiatus with a new album entitled “The Stone.”  His hour and a half set showcased a new 5 piece band of amazing musicians who were part James Brown, part Sly and The Family Stone and extremely rockin’ and funky!

He did not play “The Dance Electric,” but he did do an updated version of “Kelly’s Eyes,” and he performed the majority of “The Stone,” which features heart-felt lyrics, a nice rock edge and some funky little grooves that ran the gamut from soul to country music!  He also threw in a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” and I guarantee you, it’s the funkiest version you’ll ever hear!  Just press play!

See the setlist after the jump.

Tissue alert.  When you press play and watch Patti Smith pay tribute to the dearly departed Lou Reed at Carnegie Hall as she performs his perfect song “Perfect Day,” it will likely bring a tear to your eye.  I know it did for me, and I was taking a video at the same moment.  But it was perfect, just the same.

Enjoy!

The headline above is correct!  On March 11, 2014 at Carnegie Hall in New York, as part of a benefit concert for the Tibet House, a once in a lifetime pairing happened on stage:  Bernard Sumner of New Order and Joy Division with Iggy Pop!  The pair sang Joy Division’s “Transmission” and “Love Will Tear Us Apart” as well as the New Order rarity “Californian Grass.”

Videos of the later two songs have not only been posted on According2g.com, but they’ve gone viral (with “Love Will Tear Us Apart” achieving over 35,000 views in the first 24 hours) and have ended up on nearly every major music publication from NME to Rolling Stone to Spin Magazine, and although those sites merely posted the videos with no credit given to me for taking/posting the video, it’s still a huge honor.

As a result, I’m giving you, my dear readers yet another world exclusive – Iggy Pop and Bernard Sumner of New Order and Joy Division performing “Transmission.”  Websites, if you want to post the video, please give credit where credit is due – not just for me, but across the board and at all times!  Removing the video and keeping it private for me and my readers is as easy as the click of a button.

Videos of Iggy Pop (performing “Nightclubbing” and Patti Smith performing “Perfect Day” by Lou Reed) will be coming soon, so stay tuned!!!!!
