New York-based artists Jason Douglas Griffin and Danni Rash are showing new works at Christina Ray in SoHo. The artists will make you think about media-saturated concepts of identity, as they offer figurative and abstract reflections on urban life in this installation of paintings, wall drawings and works on paper.

New York!  Save the date.  On April 23rd at 9 pm on the corner of 47th and Broadway, artist Danni Rash will be giving away 100 drawings in an installation called “Free Shit For Cool People.”  I’ve met Danni before and he’s cool, so he’ll be able to spot fakers.

P.S.  I’ll be at a concert that night, so will someone cool hook a brother up?!

Danni Rash

As you are well aware, I have a very massive autograph collection.  I’ve been fortunate enough to meet celebrities, rock stars, politicians, sports figures and artists in my life.  I’ve gotten autographs in the sunshine, the rain, backstage, on the streets, in their living rooms (on some occasions), but I never thought in a million years I’d be saying (and meaning) the next two sentences.   Artist Danni Rash made history last night when I got his autograph.  It was the first time I’ve ever obtained a signature while the signer was completely naked!

Danni Rash is performing at the Fountain Art Fair located at Pier 66 (at 26th Street and 12th Avenue).  The fair runs from March 3 – 6, 2011 and it should not be missed.  In his installation “cruciFiction,” Danni Rash stands in front of a lit cross in the nude.  Aside from being totally gorgeous and having a great body, one can only imagine what is going through his head whilst standing there for 12 hour days in New York during the winter!  I spoke with Danni Rash at two separate times on March 4, 2011 and I gleaned from our conversations that he is not only willing to get dirty for his art, but he is also willing to get naked!

Last year, I performed in an art fair wearing only a crocheted body suit from the artist Olek.  Though my face was entirely covered, the reactions from all the people I encountered made it not only one of the most interesting experiences I had in 2010, but it was also one of the most meaningful experiences I’ve ever had in my life.  As soon as the Fountain Art Fair is over and Danni Rash has had a moment to soak it all in, I am going to pester him for an interview to get his reflections on what must be one of the most surreal experiences of his life.  I witnessed strangers gawking at him, people reacting positively and negatively to his performance as well as the looks upon the faces of his friends and companions who were seeing Danni Rash in an entirely new light (pun definitely intended).

All I can say is – RESPECT!

After the jump, see Danni Rash making According2g history being the first person to ever sign an autograph for me in the nude.  These picutres contain nudity, so if you have a closed mind – OPEN IT!

New York!  Drop what you are doing immediately and head over to the Fountain Art Fair located at Pier 66 (at 26th Street and 12th Avenue).  The fair runs from March 3 – 6, 2011 and you’ll see a lot of great art.  One of the highlights for me was discovering the work of New York based artist Danni Rash.  The above piece “cruciFiction” was already one of my favorite works in the fair on my first run through the show.  On my second pass, I discovered that “cruciFiction” is actually a performance piece.  Artist Danni Rash performs the piece completely naked save for a Santa hat!  Making this even more impressive (aside from his great body and nice package) was the fact that the art fair takes place on a pier and it’s just above freezing today!  Respect!

Danni Rash and I chatted for quite awhile, and despite the fact that he was naked and my eyes kept wandering, we had a really interesting conversation.  We spoke about living in LA and New York (something we have in common).  He told me about losing his inhibitions for performing nude (assisted by Mr. Jim Beam). Danni Rash performed a similar installation (but with underwear on) in the middle of Times Square in the midst of the chaos of a bomb scare in 2010! Genius!!!  When I asked if I could photograph him naked, instead of refusing or being squeamish, he made me promise to e-mail him the link to the story!  See a NSFCMP (not safe for closed minded people) photo of Danni Rash after the jump.  As my faithful readers know very well, I am never one to pass up a great opportunity and I took a photo with Danni Rash as well. Thanks again Danni and the link is coming soon!
