“Empire Peaks” by Michael Leavitt at Jonathan Levine Gallery
Photos by G. Art by Michael Leavitt.
Two years ago, I fell in love with Seattle-based artist Michael Leavitt’s work. In a show called “The Art Army Royalty” (See pictures here. Link will open in new window), Leavitt’s sculptures of modern art world superstars perfectly captured the essence of each artist while transforming them into the style or work each artist is most famous for. His latest exhibit “Empire Peaks” at Jonathan Levine Gallery finds Leavitt juxtaposing Star Wars characters with celebrities and historical figures. Every single work in the exhibit is a stroke of genius.
As you can see, all of these works are brilliant. You can enjoy them without being a Star Wars fan, but if you love Star Wars, you may find yourself squealing with delight as you peruse the exhibit. What you cannot see from these photos is the extreme detail in each figure, so I urge you to see them in person. You have until December 21, 2013, so do not delay! The Jonathan Levine Gallery is located at 529 West 20th Street #9E in Manhattan.
