Nue York: Portrait of a Bare Urban Citizen by Erica Simone. Now showing at the Dash Gallery in NYC through April 28, 2011.

Close to a year ago, I discovered the work of photographer Erica Simone.  I had a strong feeling that we’d all be hearing and seeing a lot more from her and I am delighted to report that she did not make a liar out of me.  Erica Simone’s exhibit “Nue York: Self-Portraits of a Bare Urban Citizen,” is now on display at the Dash Gallery in New York and it’s fantastic!  For this body of work, Erica Simone decided to document typical situations that New Yorkers encounter daily but with a twist – being completely naked.  News of the exhibit went viral across the world and Erica Simone was instantly catapulted onto the world stage.

Damon Dash and G

The other day I met music mogul, clothing mogul and now art mogul Damon Dash!  Damon co-founded Roc-A-Fella records with Jay-Z, spun it off into the Rocawear clothing label and now has his own art gallery located at 172 Duane Street in New York called the Dash Gallery.  He was super cool when I met him and he’s got great art in his gallery, so check it out if you are in the New York area. Thanks Damon!  If you’d like to be a shareholder in G Enterprises, I’ll be happy to cut you in!

The Dash Gallery in New York has a really cool exhibit currently showing called “Kinetic Energy,” and the works in this show are definitely electric.  I attended the opening on July 1, 2010 and I was especially excited to see the above painting (which is pencil, latex, marker and spray paint on canvas and wood) from Beau.  I think he’s going to be an art star imminently so it was really cool to check out his work (and the photo above does not do justice to how cool it looks with your naked eye).  The mixed media show has dozens of works from international artists and it’s definitely worth checking out.  The Dash Gallery is located at 172 Duane Street in New York.

See some more coolness from Kinetic Energy after the jump.
