New Paintings by David Salle

New Paintings by David Salle at Mary Boone Gallery in New York. Showing through June 25, 2011.

David Salle is reprising images of his iconic women from the 1980s in an exhibit of new works that is now showing at the Mary Boone Gallery in New York.  It’s hard to tell from these pictures but each work measures no less than 80 inches across.  Also, most works include protruding objects such as a wooden chair or functioning light bulbs!

I highly recommend you check out this really great exhibit.  New Works by David Salle is showing at Mary Boone Gallery (located at 541 West 24th Street in Manhattan) through June 25, 2011.

David Salle and G

When David Salle was being introduced before a lecture at Christie’s in New York, his biography was beyond amazing.  The list of museums his work has been featured in topped 100!  He’s participated in all of the top world art fairs and in addition to being a master painter, he’s an accomplished sculptor, film maker as well as set and costume designer.  Whoa!  David Salle spoke about the concept of art before speaking about his own incredible career.  His talk was fascinating as he spoke about his influences as well as the fact that he thinks most critics of his work don’t get what he’s about. (Please note, I am paraphrasing, not starting rumors!)  One of my favorite parts of the lecture was when he talked about his brilliant painting “A Brief History of Christmas” and how it reads as a road map into his future works.  I definitely recommend you check out his works if you are not already familiar.  You’ll see why he’s received as many accolades as he has. I met the artist prior to his talk and as you can see from the above picture, he was very cool!  Prior to the lecture, I’d only seen one full exhibit in person and a work here and there, but after hearing him speak, I think I’ve opened a doorway to a lot of future enjoyment!  Thanks again Mr. Salle!  You are truly an inspiration!

David Salle - Some Pictures from the 80s now showing at the Mary Boone Gallery in NYC through June 26, 2010.

American artist David Salle has a cool exhibition at the Mary Boone Gallery in New York right now called “Some Pictures From the 80s.”  At first glance, it looks like David Salle juxtaposes random images in his canvases, but as you examine his wonderful works closer, you can see that David Salle’s protagonists refuse to conform to the viewer’s narrative expectations.  There are dozens of cool works in this exhibit, many of which are extremely large. I enjoyed this exhibit very much. The Mary Boone Gallery is located at 541 West 24th Street in New York and “Some Pictures from the 80s” runs until June 26, 2010.

See Some (more) Picutres from the 80s by David Salle, after the jump.  The images that follow contain artistic nudity, so if you have a closed mind, you should stop reading this article immediately.
