40 years ago on July 3, 1971, poet and rocker Jim Morrison of The Doors was found dead at age 27 in his apartment in Paris. The words and music of Jim Morrison have shaped my life in so many immeasurable ways.
Jim is alive and well in my world as I read his poetry and listen to his music all the time, and his words and music sounds as great as ever. On this day, I pay tribute to the man with a bit of one of my favorite poems, “An American Prayer”:
We’re perched headlong on the edge of boredom
We’re reaching for death on the end of a candle
We’re trying for something that’s already found us….
RIP Jim. I love you the best. Better than all the rest.

Sad news out of Hollywood. Actor Peter Falk, best known for his role as sleuth “Colombo” has died at age 83. I was fortunate enough to meet him many times and he was always very nice. RIP Peter!

Ugh! Poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron has died. I saw him live in Central Park not even a year ago! At the time, he was making a nice come back after spending years in jail for drugs. He revealed that he had contracted HIV from his drug use, but it is uncertain what the actual cause of death was. RIP, Gil!

Jeff Conaway
Oh no, not Kenicke! Sad news out of Hollywood today. Actor Jeff Conaway has died from drug related causes. The actor was best known from his roles on the TV show “Taxi” as well as in the movie “Grease.” Unfortunately, his off-screen drug problems overshadowed his acting career and it ultimately cost him his life. I met Jeff Conaway on several occasions over the years and he was always a really cool guy. We bonded over the fact that both of our names are Jeff (though spelled differently) and it was always a pleasure to see him. RIP, Jeff! A hickey from Kenicke will always be like a Hallmark card!
