The moment I’ve been looking forward to has arrived! New York’s dance/pop/funk/electro Penguin Prison is embarking on a headlining tour and their first stop was at the Mercury Lounge in New York on December 15, 2011. Aside from CMJ gigs, this was their first proper show since the release of their self-titled debut album was released in late October. It was very exciting to see that the fans are loving the record as much as I am and the show was an absolute dance party. Everyone was jumping up and down and singing along to every song and most importantly, having a great time!
Lead singer Chris Glover played guitar behind his head and jumped into the audience many times to party along with the crowd. They played many of their concert favorites including “The Worse It Gets,” “Fair Warning,” “Multi-Millionaire,” “In The Way,” and their new single “Don’t Fuck With My Money.” The non-album track “Animal Animal” was also played as well as the live debut of “Desert Cold.” Penguin Prison doesn’t just make great music for himself and is actually pretty big on the remix scene. He recently remixed Lana Del Rey’s “Blue Jeans” and the dancey version is being regarded on the web as “the best version of the song” and I completely agree! Penguin Prison closed out the special night by covering the remix live!
If you live in New York, you MUST go see Penguin Prison (with Class Actress opening!) on December 30, 2011 at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. It’s going to be a great time – I guarantee it!
And now… Blue Jeans!
