New York!  One of the first must see exhibits of the year is finally upon us!  Street artist and musician turned gallery artist Desire Obtain Cherish has just opened his first solo show in New York and you will not want to miss it.  Entitled “We Are Known by the Company We Keep” at Unix Gallery, the show is brilliant in every way.  Desire Obtain Cherish explores the phoniness of the art world (hence the title of the exhibit) with his take on mega-famous artists, critics and consumerism.  All the works in the show will make you smile and probably throw up in your mouth a little when you take a deeper look at his works and the bold statement he is making about the world we live in.

I strongly urge you to check out this show and if you are not in the New York area, check out DOC’s official website and I am sure you will agree that every work he does is absolutely genius!

Desire Obtain Cherish agreed to be photographed at the opening night reception and interestingly enough, the lighting sort of shaded his face, thus keeping up his street artist anonymity.  In the photo below, you can take a sneak peak of a live installation of his take on artists that use factories to produce “their own” art.

“We Are Known By The Company We Keep” by Desire Obtain Cherish is on display at UNIX (located at 532 West 24th Street) in New York through May 6, 2014.  Do not miss this!

Congratulations to Lab Art in Los Angeles for their one year anniversary in business!  I’ve been fortunate enough to visit the gallery many times over the last year and it has become a must visit destination when I am in the city.  To celebrate this amazing accomplishment, Lab Art is presenting “The Usual Suspects,” which is a ‘greatest hits’ (pun definitely intended) of the work of some of the great street artists that have been instrumental in the success of the gallery.  The All-Star lineup includes Alec Monopoly, AJL, DD’$, Cyrcle, Thank You X, Destroy All Design, Mar, Felix, Kai, Desire Obtain Cherish, Kai, Cali Killa, Gregory Siff, Louis XXX, Chad Muska, KH Number 7, Septerhed and Dog Byte.  Wowza!

Alec Monopoly

As the largest gallery of Street Art in the United States, Lab Art has its finger on the pulse of what’s hot in the streets and within its first year, a sister site at the Mondrian in LA has popped up, with more locations coming soon!

AJL

Lab Art has also hosted numerous live painting events over the last year and has received international coverage on these events.

In addition to the great art on display (which is set up like a museum!) Lab Art has been a great supporter of  this blog and I am grateful for their friendship!

Cyrcle

But enough gushing (though I could go on).  Enjoy some photos from “The Usual Suspects!”  Lab Art is located at 217 South La Brea in Los Angeles.  Tell them G sent you!
