Happy birthday to writer Elmore Leonard. He’s written great stories such as “Get Shorty.” He also proved the ‘always bring your camera with you everywhere’ rule to be true. I was once at a radio taping and I was called on to answer a question. They asked me to go to the back of the studio so that I could speak into the microphone. When I made my way to the back, Elmore Leonard was at the microphone doing a voice over! I guess you know how that story ends…
Also born today: actors John Cusak and Luke Perry, artist Glen Hanson, comedienne Dawn French and jazz great Art Blakey.

A rule of thumb I always live by is take your camera EVERYWHERE because you never know who or what you’ll encounter. October 12, 2010 was no exception. I was watching Mark Ronson and the Business Int’l being interviewed at the Greene Space in New York and I was chosen to be a contestant for a music trivia quiz. As I walked over to the microphone, writer Elmore Leonard was doing a voice-over at the mic! Wow! So many of his novels have been made into movies such as “Get Shorty,” “3:10 to Yuma,” “Jackie Brown,” and “52 Pick Up,” just to name a few. He was super nice when I met him and I am hoping the footage ends up on the net because it was definitely being recorded. If so, I’ll let you know. Thanks again Mr. Leonard!
