“Foodhist Temple” by Peter Anton at Unix Gallery

Namaste! Welcome to the temple! Artist Peter Anton has created a very tantalizing new exhibit at Unix Gallery in New York entitled “Foodhist Temple” and you will not want to miss it. At the entrance to the gallery, which has been completely covered in red carpeting with the walls painted red, you are asked to take your shoes off.
As you walk inside the shrine, instead of seeing your typical religious fare, you see life-like (but larger than life) sculptures of what Americans really worship these days – FOOD! Bacon, donuts, pizza, hamburgers, chocolates as well as cake are on display. For those who want to have a “foodhist religious experience” (so to speak), pillows have been laid out across the gallery/temple floor, so the viewer can spend time worshiping these objects.
As you can see in this picture, the sculptures are enormous, and yet look life like. Peter Anton used resin, metal, wood, clay and acrylic for the works in this show.
Again, to show you the perspective of how big these sculptures are, here’s a picture of Gail Worley worshiping at the altar of bacon. This is definitely the Bacon Thing of the Day.
“Foodhist Temple” by Peter Anton is on display until May 9, 2015 at Unix Gallery (located at 532 West 24th Street) in Manhattan.
Amen!
