In Your Face by Fumero. Now showing at 17 Frost in Brooklyn through September 10, 2011

Although I’ve written about street artist Fumero many times before, it wasn’t until I attended his latest solo show “In Your Face” where I realized what Fumeroism is all about.  The show, which takes place at 17 Frost Gallery in Brooklyn builds on his iconic “Table Series Logo” that is seen all over NYC and beyond.  This time, instead of faceless people sittting around the dinner table, the faces are alive with the vivid colors Fumero uses. As you peruse the gallery, you’ll reaffirm your definition of what family means.

In addition to the familes (that are on enormous canvases), there’s an icons section that features Fumero’s colorful vision of people from Slick Rick to Gandhi to Marilyn Monroe.  One of my favorites was Al Pacino (pictured below).

The opening night reception was a rager and the closing night reception on 09/10/11 promises to be the same.  The closing party will take place during the day, so don’t miss it.  17 Frost Gallery is located at 17 Frost in Brooklyn.

New York!  If you are a like me and rarely make it out of Manhattan, here’s a fun field trip:  Welling Court in Astoria, Queens.  Located at 30th Avenue and Main, there’s a ton of street art and gorgeous murals such as the “Einstein” by Fumero as pictured above.  Admission is free and these great works of art are on view 24 hours a day.  More photos will be posted soon, so bookmark this site to make sure you don’t miss out.

In other Fumero news, save the date.  On August 13, 2011, Fumero will be having another solo exhibit entitled “In Your Face” at 17 Frost Gallery in Brooklyn.  More details to come, so for now, keep that date free.

Street artist Fumero took the art world by storm last year when his iconic “Table Series Logo” was featured in the packaging of the DVD “Exit Through The Gift Shop.”  Proving he is not a 1 trick pony, Fumero’s first solo show “Fumeroism” at Phantom Audio in New York has been a major success.  Fumero’s caricature-like figurative paintings are distinctive and the artist calls his style “Fumeroism.”  He’s paid tribute to some of the greats in this exhibit including Notorious BIG, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison and Gandhi.

Over 20 works are on display including variations on “the Table Series Logo,” as well as paintings from his “Grandpa” series which has been seen all over the streets of New York.  You’ll recognize many of the subjects in his paintings, but the interpretations of these figures belong solely to Fumero.  I especially love the shadows that are not represented in black, but instead with vivid colors.  The future is looking very bright for Fumero.  You can see additional photos of “Fumeroism” at The Worley Gig.
