Gerhard Richter - Strip Paintings

Gerhard Richter – Strip Paintings. Now showing at Marian Goodman Gallery in New York through October 13, 2012.

New York!  Make sure you go and check out Gerhard Richter’s latest exhibit “Painting 2012” at the Marian Goodman Gallery.  There’s no way you can see the detail in these photos as they simply must be experienced in person.  I sat there for a good 30 minutes, letting my eyes lose a little focus and within seconds, I was no longer in a gallery but inside a Gerhard Richter painting!

In addition to numerous strip paintings which will definitely bend your noodle, as they say, a new glass sculpture from Richter is on display.  I was fortunate enough to meet the artist at the opening reception and he was gracious enough to take a photo with me as you can see below.  Thanks again Mr. Richter!

Lines which do not exist by Gerhard Richter at the Drawing Center in NYC.

The Drawing Center in New York is currently presenting over 50 works by German artist Gerhard Richter in a presentation called “Lines Which Do No Exist.”  You’ll see a selection of watercolor, graphite, and ink on paper drawings by Richter made in the period of 1966 to 2005.  Would love to know what his reaction to being name checked in the Pet Shop Boys song “Love Etc.” is.  The Drawing Center is located at 35 Wooster Street in New York and the exhibit runs until November 18, 2010.

When I think of all the things I wish you were

I only see the things you don’t have to be

I don’t hesitate to try for another vision

I just surrender to the truth

It makes me wonder

If either of us ever really knew what love meant
