Hanne Hukkelberg

On June 10, 2010, Norwegian sensation Hanne Hukkelberg opened for Junip at a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom.  Her music is hypnotic and can be described as Bjork meets Billie Holliday.  Her 9 song opening set was the perfect compliment to Junip’s indie-folk grooves and I enjoyed her performance very much.  She often makes music out of “found” instruments and she demonstrated that by using an empty Chock Full O’ Nuts coffee can as a percussive instrument.  While listening to her music, I closed my eyes and felt transported to a mystical adventure land.  I was not surprised when I discovered that Hanne Hukkelberg donated a song to the “Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” soundtrack.  If you are in the New York area, you have another chance to catch Hanne Hukkelberg’s seductive music when she plays at Joe’s Pub on June 19, 2010.
