Angie!  Annnngie!  I love Angie Dickinson.  I have met Angie Dickinson so many times and she is beyond nice.  One of my fondest memories of Angie Dickinson was when she’d interact with a friend of mine who knew her.  She’d always say to him “are you going to see my new movie?” and he’d always reply in complete dead pan “The last movie I saw in the theater was ‘Birth of a Nation.’”  You’ll have to look up that reference if you don’t know it.  You can take my word for it that thinking about those conversations still makes me smile.  Happy birthday Angie!

Happy birthday to American artist John Baldessari.  The artist is best known for his work featuring found photography and appropriated images.  I’ve seen his exhibit “Pure Beauty” in both Los Angeles and New York and I loved it in both cities.  Happy birthday John!

Willie Mays

Say Hey!  Willie Mays, one of the greatest baseball players to ever play the game turns 80 today.  I’ve had many encounters with the legend over the years and they’ve been hit and miss.  However, when you’ve accomplished the things Willie Mays has, I can understand a bit of attitude here and there.  Happy birthday Willie!

The iconic New York landscape. Empire State Building is in the center.

80 years ago on May 1, 1931, The Empire State Building in New York opened its doors to the public for the first time.  As a transplant to New York, I have to admit, it never gets old looking at the historic building.  When you are out and about on your adventures in the city, the building can be seen from so many different views reaching near and far – and all of them are breathtaking.  I am not a fan of doing touristy things when I travel to different cities, but I highly recommend a trip to the top of this iconic building.  The views are extremely gorgeous!  Happy birthday ESB!  Shout out to Gothamist for the tip!

Happy 80th birthday to Dr. Spock, Leonard Nimoy.  William Shatner celebrated his 80th birthday the other day which means only one thing – we are all getting old!  Leonard is a really cool guy and I recall on the first day I met him, I also met former James Bond – Timothy Dalton, Clint Eastwood and writer Ray Bradbury. That day worked it!  Happy birthday Leonard!
