Photos by G. Art by JR and Jose Parla.
Artists JR and Jose Parla have made a collaborative exhibit that is like art within art within art at the Bryce Wolkowitz gallery in Manhattan. Entitled “The Wrinkles of the City, Havana,” Parla and JR each created art and the exhibit shows off large scale photos of their collaborative efforts.
JR put up massive black and white portraits of ordinary people in Cuba who lived through the Cuban revolution and then Jose Parla added his calligraphic writings and color to the outdoor murals. A documentary shown at the gallery accompanies these art works and it really provides context when watching interviews with some of these elderly folks who are at times both baffled and flattered by these works.
“The Wrinkles of the City, Havana” by JR and Jose Parla is showing at Bryce Wolkowitz (located at 524 West 24th Street) in New York through July 12, 2013.
