If you haven’t already discovered the music of Danish pop star Oh Land, you are in for a treat! The live video you are about to see is pop perfection! She’s been called “Mary Poppins on acid”!!! The song is catchy as hell, which will be great for your ears. Oh Land is extremely gorgeous too, as you will see. She’ll be opening up for OMD on their US tour in March, so check her out when she comes to your city.
Enjoy “Sun of a Gun” live by Oh Land at New York’s Hiro Ballroom on January 26, 2011!
Danish electro-pop singer Oh Land(nee Nanna Oland Fabricius) is set to be pop music’s next biggest act. She played to a packed house at Hiro Ballroom in New York on January 26, 2011. Her music is catchy, she has a great stage setup (featuring images being projected onto balloons) and she’s gorgeous! Her debut EP came out last September and she’s set to release her full length record in the first part of 2011. She’s landed an opening slot on OMD’s first US tour in 20 years beginning in March and it looks like she’s about to conquer the music world.
Her hour long set consisted of crowd favorites “Sun of a Gun” (and a video of that song will be coming soon, so stay tuned), “Rainbow” and also performed a cover of Fleet Foxes’ “Turn It Up.” If you live in Los Angeles, Oh Land will be playing February 1, 2011 at the Troubadour and February 2, 2011 at Echo. You’d better catch Oh Land at a small venue while you still have the chance!
How cute is Ellie Goulding? Very cute, according2g. Watch this video to see why she’s about to take over the pop music world. This was her first performance in New York and there’s going to be many more to come.
I’ve been raving about the band Penguin Prison for months. Their music is guilt free pop perfection. Lead singer Chris Glover is a little bit rock and roll with a whole lot of soul. I am really looking forward to their debut album, which will hopefully be out in early 2011. To tide us all over until the release date, check out a video of Penguin Prison performing their soon-to-be hits “Animal Animal” and “A Funny Thing” live at Hiro Ballroom on September 29, 2010. Penguin Prison will be supporting another favorite of mine, Two Door Cinema Club on their fall tour, so don’t miss a night of great music when they come to your town!
September 30, 2010 was my second time seeing Penguin Prison live and I loved them as much as I did the first time. The Brooklyn based band opened for Ellie Goulding at Hiro Ballroom and the sold out crowd loved them as well. Their music is perfect pop where every song will make you want to listen to it over and over again. Lead singer Chris Glover’s voice has a really nice blend of Justin Timberlake soul and he often does guitar solos where he plays the guitar over his head a’la Jimi Hendrix! In the studio, Penguin Prison has already remixed some of the hottest stars out there from Goldfrapp to Kylie Minogue and most recently they remixed the new Jamiroquai single.
When I saw Penguin Prison the first time, I had never heard any of their music as their debut record still has a TBA release date. Luckily for all of us, RCRD LBL has a bunch of free legal downloads and they’ve been on heavy rotation in the According2g offices for months now. When they played tracks such as “Something I’m Not,” “A Funny Thing,” and “The Worse It Gets,” I was singing along. I ran into Chris Glover after the show and he recognized me, which was pretty cool. If you missed Penguin Prison tonight, never fear, they are going to be playing with Two Door Cinema Club (another band I love) in October, so don’t miss that. I cannot wait to hear more great things from Penguin Prison.
