Sometimes when you go to a concert, you pretty much have an idea of what to expect. This was not the case on March 12, 2010 when I saw My Robot Friend play at Galapagos Art Space in Brooklyn, New York. Howard Robot (and I am sure that’s his real name) wears hand crafted suits that are made out of lights and his performance is nothing short of an eye-opening spectacle. His music is electronic and his show is electric! My Robot Friend has worked with the likes of Alison Moyet of Yazoo and Antony Hegarty of Antony and the Johnsons. Plus his track “We’re the Pet Shop Boys” has been covered by both the Pet Shop Boys and Robbie Williams. Sadly, he did not play that song tonight, as he focused on playing music from his latest album “Soft Core,” but it didn’t matter, it was a great show. At one point in the show, Howard Robot got a bloody nose, but the show just went on – bloody nose be damned. If My Robot Friend comes to your town, befriend him. Robots need love too!
