Photos by G. Art by Yayoi Kusama.
If you live in New York, don’t even think about missing a mind-blowing trio of exhibits by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama entitled “I Who Have Arrived In Heaven.” The 3 David Zwirner galleries (on 519, 525 and 533 West 19th Street) have paintings, videos and mirrored room installations that will blow your mind. In the photo above, you walk into a mirrored room (and please note – there will probably be a wait to enter, but it is worth it!) and colorful tentacles hang from the ceiling. The mirrored room gives the effect that the tentacles go on forever and as the colors change every few moments, it will definitely make your head expand!
27 new large scale (and extremely trippy) paintings are on display and I didn’t even bother to post close ups because you simply must see this exhibit in person.
A video installation in a mirrored room shows a 1 minute video of Kusama performing her song “A Manhattan Suicide Addict” and it looks as if it goes on to infinity (see the video here).
Last but not least, there are also some sculptures on display.
“I Who Have Arrived In Heaven” by Yayoi Kusama at David Zwirner is showing through December 21, 2013. Do not miss it!
