Iggy and the Stooges - Raw Power: Legacy Edition. Out NOW!!!

Raw Power by Iggy and the Stooges (1973) is arguably the first punk record ever made.  Not only does it stand the test of time 35 years later, but it completely blows away so many other albums that fared better on the Billboard charts year after year in the same category.  You would think it impossible to make a perfect record better, but Sony Music’s Legacy division has done it.  How?  By adding a bonus disc of previously unreleased material!  The Legacy Edition of Raw Power features the original 8 song album as disc one and disc two is a concert + 2 studio out-takes from 1973.  Disc 2, which is entitled “Georgia Peaches,” is a complete sound-board show from Richards, a small club in Atlanta where Iggy and the Stooges not only rocked the crowd with songs the audience was familiar with, but they also played some newer tracks they’d been working on that wouldn’t be released for months to come.  The sound is pristine and for as rocking as the show is, the obvious highlights are the banter between Iggy Pop and the crowd in between songs.  At one point he chastises a “white cracker” and at another part he tells a “Georgia peach to suck his ass.”  The show was recorded for inclusion on the King Biscuit Flower Hour, but for a myriad of reasons, was never aired.  A tape of this legendary recording was preserved and it has thankfully been released in all its glory.  The booklet is packed with rare photos, essays and a written introduction to the music by Iggy Pop himself.  This album is a must have for your music collection and the good news is, the Legacy Edition of Raw Power is available NOW!

For the true die hards, there’s a deluxe edition of Raw Power that features the 2 discs above + a 3rd disc of studio outtakes, rarities and alternative versions (5 of which have been previously unreleased); a 4th disc which is a DVD of the making of Raw Power and a bonus Japanese 7-inch of Raw Power b/w Search and Destroy.  2010 has been a big year for Iggy – getting inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, announcing his retirement from stagediving and now the Legacy Edition of Raw Power!
