"Heaven or Las Vegas" by Ivan Navarro. Now showing at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York through April 2, 2011

Chilean artist Ivan Navarro has put together a mind blowing exhibit called “Heaven or Las Vegas” which is currently on view at Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York.  Navarro has created a series of fluorescent light wall sculptures based on the floor plans of twelve of the world’s most well known skyscrapers, including the Flatiron Building in New York, the Jumeirah Emirates Towers in Dubai and The Center in Hong Kong.

Through a positioned play of mirrors and lights, viewers have the experience of looking up into the interior elevation of each building, many of which tower more than 1,000 feet high in actuality. Within each work, Navarro has incorporated significant words or phrases like SURRENDER, RESIST, and YOU SAY YES, which echo like suggestions or commands through each structure’s illusory depth.

The next photo is an extreme closeup of the above work entitled “Shelter.”

These pictures cannot do these incredible works of art justice, so I urge you to go see for yourself.  The Paul Kasmin Gallery is located at 293 Tenth Avenue in New York.  “Heaven or Las Vegas” by Ivan Navarro runs until April 2, 2011.
I attended the opening night reception and I was fortunate enough to meet Ivan Navarro.  I congratulated him on an amazing show and he was extremely nice.  See a photo of that moment as well as a partial gallery shot after the jump.
