Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing

February 13, 2011 was the second time I saw Virginia’s indie rock band Wild Nothing perform.  The sold out show took place at New York’s Bowery Ballroom and I loved it just as much as the first time I saw them.  Without being derivative, their music sounds like lost Smiths songs.  Lead singer Jack Tatum sings about living in dreams, dying, cigarettes and other macabre subjects.  Gotta love it!  Wild Nothing played their entire debut album “Gemini” as well as a cover of “Velocity Girl” by Primal Scream!  A video of that will be coming soon, so please be patient.  You can search the archives for a video of their track “Live In Dreams” from my first Wild Nothing concert experience.  After seeing Wild Nothing twice all I can say is, I can’t wait for a new album and the next show!

An Encounter with Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing

If I were a betting man, I’d place money on the band Wild Nothing becoming huge!  I saw the Virigina based band on September 24, 2010 and I liked all of their music on first listen!  The crowd reacted as if their songs had already become anthems and I expect they will be.  Musically, they sound a bit like the Smiths meet the Cure and Jack Tatum’s voice flows like the Moz, without being derivative.  He was extremely nice when I met him and I gushed to him how much I enjoyed the show and that I wish him and Wild Nothing tremendous success. He thanked me, and I thank him!  Good luck Wild Nothing!

Jack Tatum of Wild Nothing

On September 24, 2010, Virginia’s Wild Nothing opened for Stars at Terminal 5 in New York.  It’s rare that an opening act outshines the main band (though I’ve seen it recently when The Rassle did it) and it happened again as Wild Nothing killed it (in a great way) with their 40 minute set.  Without being derivative, Wild Nothing’s music sounded a lot like The Smiths.  Jack Tatum’s voice and lyrical style are very reminiscent of the Moz, so if you miss those days where he crafted all those great songs, I think you’ll really enjoy Wild Nothing.  After each song, the band received thunderous applause and when they announced “this is our last song,” the audience was not happy about it!  Wild Nothing’s setlist consisted of tracks from their debut album “Gemini” and a live performance from their amazing set will be coming soon.  Please be patient.  I am one person with many great adventures.  I met Jack Tatum after the set and he was extremely nice.  That picture will be coming soon as well.  Best of luck to Wild Nothing.  I think they are going to be everything!
