Janis Joplin - The Woodstock Experience. Out now!

Janis Joplin - The Woodstock Experience. Out now!

It seems that the gods have been listening to my pleas and one wish has been answered.  Just in time for the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, Columbia/Legacy has released Janis Joplin – The Woodstock Experience.

This deluxe 2-Cd package includes a really cool double sided poster of Janis/the Woodstock crowd.  While disc one features the classic album “I Got Dem Ol’ Kozmic Blues Again Mama!,” disc two features Janis’ entire set at the Woodstock festival.  This show has been circulating in the bootleg world for decades, but in totally crappy sound quality.  Over the years, a song here and there have seen the light of day, but finally – the full show is presented in pristine quality!  If you are a fan of Janis, you will surely treasure this set.

The setlist for her Woodstock performance (and disc 2 of this incredible package) is:

Raise Your Hand / As Good As You’ve Been To Ths World / To Love Somebody / Summertime / Try (Just A Little Bit Harder) / Kozmic Blues / Can’t Turn You Loose / Work Me, Lord / Piece of my Heart / Ball and Chain

Listening to these discs makes you realize that Janis was raw emotional power both in the studio and out.  It also makes you get greedy for the label to release more stuff that is probably in the vaults.  Sony are you listening?

One last note Woodstock Experience editions are out by Sly and The Family Stone, Jefferson Airlplane, Edgar Winter and Santana, so get the blacklight out of the closet, roll up a fat one and enjoy!
