Damien Hirst and G

Whoa!  The question everyone always asks me is “G, you’ve met EVERYONE!  Who’s on your ‘must meet list’?”  In the art world, the person at the top of the list for many years has been Damien Hirst.  On my 6th anniversary of moving to New York, another milestone was reached – I met Damien Hirst!  He was in town as the 3 Gagosian galleries in Manhattan (as well as every Gagosian gallery around the world – and there are 11 of them) are showing a retrospective of Damien Hirst’s Spot Paintings from 1986 to 2011.  The richest artist in the world was extremely nice when I chatted with him and you C-listers out there should please check your ego against the accomplishments that Damien Hirst has achieved before age 50!  Thanks so much Damien for being so cool and the timing of our encounter really could not have been more perfect!  It reaffirms that the leap of faith I took by moving to New York continues to pay off.   Respect!

An Encounter with Mark Ruffalo

Mark Ruffalo and G

I’ve always loved Mark Ruffalo’s movies, but now I love him in a totally different way.  Mark Ruffalo is lending his voice to stop hydrofracking.

Misleading the public under the false claim that gas is a  clean  energy, the oil and gas industry is currently using a toxic and hazardous process for natural gas extraction called hydraulic fracturing (“hydrofracking”).  This process, currently ongoing in 34 states in the USA, is causing irreparable damage to the environment, poisoning humans and animals, making farms, homes and large tracts of land uninhabitable.

I met the actor at Exit Art in New York on January 12, 2011 as he generously lent his voice to stop hydrofracking.  He was extremely nice and as if meeting him wasn’t great enough, he sat right in front of me for the duration of the 2 hour panel discussion on the dangers of hydrofracking.  Thanks so much Mark!  Respect!

Mark Ruffalo Lends His Voice to Stop Hydrofracking

Stop Hydrofracking! Educate yourselves at Damascuscitizens.org, NYH2O.org, Gaslandthemovie.com

Before you read on and see the babe-a-licious actor Mark Ruffalo, I have a question for you:  Do you know what hyrdofracking is?  Do you care?  The answer to both questions is hopefully yes.  If you don’t, you OWE it to yourself to read and understand the following information:

Misleading the public under the false claim that gas is a “clean” energy, the oil and gas industry is currently using a toxic and hazardous process for natural gas extraction called hydraulic fracturing (“hydrofracking”).  This process, currently ongoing in 34 states in the USA, is causing irreparable damage to the environment, poisoning humans and animals, making farms, homes and large tracts of land uninhabitable.

You might remember seeing some street art about hydrofracking several months ago with stickers that say “Water and Fracking Do Not Mix.”

Mark Ruffalo so awesomely lent his voice to this great cause to stop hydrofracking.  A panel of experts told several hundred community members some very sobering facts about hydrofracking.  A lot of these facts are nothing terribly shocking:  our water supply is being poisoned in the interest of corporations making a greater profit.  The environmental safeguards such as the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Clean Air Act and Superfund Acts are completely unregulated. The evil SOBs at Halliburton created a loophole in these acts thus exempting hyrdrofracking from the bills that are supposed to be protecting us.  Do you need to be a conspiracy theorist to figure this stuff out?  No.

The time is now to open your eyes and take action!  If this information superhighway is indeed so super, we need to educate ourselves now more than ever.  If you remember nothing about this information – here’s a fact you will NEVER forget:  1% of the population is controlling the other 99%.  WE outnumber THEM!  Obviously, for the tables to turn, a leader needs to emerge.  Be a leader!

What can you do to help?

Call the White House (212-456-1111), tell your Senators (http://www.senate.gov) and tell your Congress people (http://www.house.gov) to Close the Halliburton Loophole.  Stop opposing bills which call for switching trucks and cars to natural gas and stop fooling with fossil fuels and start investing in sustainable and renewable energy to create green jobs and green energy.  We elected these people.  Now we need to make sure they are doing their jobs as they promised – to look out for the best interests of THE PEOPLE!  If not, we need to fire these people! That would happen to us if we didn’t do our job, right?

Kirstie Alley

Kirstie Alley

Actress Kirstie Alley turns 60 today, January 12, 2011 and we wish her a very happy one.  Kirstie Alley is a big Prince fan and when I used to live in LA, I used to see her at all the Prince shows!  For the non-Prince die-hards, here’s a fun fact:  Kirstie Alley plays a reporter named Vanessa Bartholomew on Prince’s infamous “O(+>” album. She tries to get the elusive star to do an interview throughout the record and when she finally gets him to talk, he answers her questions very cryptically.  What a surprise!

Howard Stern

Happy birthday to “the king of all media,” Howard Stern who was born on  January 12.  Some people love him and some people hate him.  Personally, I don’t think he’s always funny, but when he’s on point, I laugh harder than I ever laugh.  When Howard’s excellent debut book “Private Parts” came out, my mom, who is the coolest mom ever, braved the crowds at his book signing and got Howard to sign my book!  Too cool!  Happy birthday Howard!
