Attention fans of delicious pop music!  The multi-talented singer/songwriter Jeremy Gloff has announced the release date for his next album, “21st Century Love Songs.”  The album drops on November 14, 2009 and is preceeded by the first single “Oh Sweet Boy.”  The video is already up on Youtube and on Jeremy’s official site.  The video for “Oh Sweet Boy” was directed by Aubrey Bramble.

“21st Century Love Songs” features a cover of The Grand Royals (Jill Jones and Ian Ginsberg) classic “So Much In Love.”  I had the pleasure of seeing Jeremy and Jill perform this song live last year, and the performance was so hot, the audience was left begging for more.

Meshell Ndegeocello live at the Highline Ballroom October 6, 2009

Me’shell Ndegeocello celebrated the release of her latest album Devil’s Halo by performing at New York’s Highline Ballroom on October 6, 2009.

Me’shell has a really solid fan base and she treated us to old and new songs, plus two great covers:  Dirty Mind by Prince and Love You Down by Ready For The World!  She funked up those songs to the point where they now belong to her.  Because Me’shell is prone to epilepsy caused by flash photography, she pretty much performed the entire show in the dark.  That worked out fine for me, since I was in the front row, but my usual high quality pictures that I present to my readers unfortunately suffered as a result.  As this was my first time seeing Me’shell, I loved that the audience was so engrossed in the show, that when she sang, you could literally hear a pin drop because everyone was so focused on her words and music.  The amazing singer of “Living For The Weekend,” Jill Jones was also in attendance  for this beautiful night.

See another shot of Me’shell, plus the handwritten set list and the handwritten lyrics to Dirty Mind (so as not to forget the words) after the jump.  Both the lyrics and the set list are now resting comfortably in the G archives.

Purple Rain Turns 25!

Spin Magazine's Tribute to Purple Rain - Out Now!

Spin Magazine's Tribute to Purple Rain - Out Now!

It’s hard to believe that Purple Rain, the first movie from rocker Prince, is 25 years old.  Spin Magazine has a great cover story that reveals a lot of the untold history behind the making of the film.  For example, the amazing singer Jill Jones reveals that when Vanity dropped out of the picture (to do “The Last Temptation of Christ”), Gina Gershon was nearly cast in the role that catapulted Apollonia to stardom.  Former Revolution bandmates Wendy and Lisa also talk about how Prince used to be so open-minded, but in recent years, his stringent religious beliefs have squashed his creativity.  Happy birthday Purple Rain!  The movie, the music, the band-members have changed my life in so many positive ways.

This issue of Spin Magazine, which also features an exclusive mp3 download of covers called “Purplish Rain,” is out now.
