Artists JR and Jose Parla have made a collaborative exhibit that is like art within art within art at the Bryce Wolkowitz gallery in Manhattan.  Entitled “The Wrinkles of the City, Havana,” Parla and JR each created art and the exhibit shows off large scale photos of their collaborative efforts.

JR put up massive black and white portraits of ordinary people in Cuba who lived through the Cuban revolution and then Jose Parla added his calligraphic writings and color to the outdoor murals.  A documentary shown at the gallery accompanies these art works and it really provides context when watching interviews with some of these elderly folks who are at times both baffled and flattered by these works.

Jose Parla is an amazing artist whose works have been exhibited all over the world.  At the “The New Grand Tour” exhibit at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery in New York, Parla’s wonderful art is prominently featured.  His intricate and calligraphic artwork is extremely cool (as you will see below).  He was extremely nice when I met him and I am thankful to him for his great art and for the photo op.  The New Grand Tour at the Bryce Wolkowitz Gallery runs through July 17, 2010 and is located at 505 West 24th Street in New York.  Thanks again Jose!
