The other night I was at a concert (seeing a lineup that included LP) when I spotted another 2 initialed person, the artist JR!  He slipped into his shades and happily took a picture with me.  If you haven’t seen his art, all you need to do really is leave your house and pay close attention to the streets as his stuff is EVERYWHERE!  Stay up, JR and thanks for being a cool dude!

Artists JR and Jose Parla have made a collaborative exhibit that is like art within art within art at the Bryce Wolkowitz gallery in Manhattan.  Entitled “The Wrinkles of the City, Havana,” Parla and JR each created art and the exhibit shows off large scale photos of their collaborative efforts.

JR put up massive black and white portraits of ordinary people in Cuba who lived through the Cuban revolution and then Jose Parla added his calligraphic writings and color to the outdoor murals.  A documentary shown at the gallery accompanies these art works and it really provides context when watching interviews with some of these elderly folks who are at times both baffled and flattered by these works.

In advance of Jose Parla and JR’s exhibit which opens this week in New York, they decorated the side of the building in Chelsea where the exhibit will be housed.  Pretty cool
