Trevor Hall

On July 11, 2010, South Carolina’s Trevor Hall opened for reggae legend Jimmy Cliff at Summer Stage in New York’s Central Park.  I admit, I had never heard of Trevor Hall before this show and when I saw his gorgeous self take the stage, I was all ears!  He sites Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and Bjork as his musical influences and his music is infused with acoustic rock and reggae.  There were lots of stoned college kids around me that were huge fans and this one guy next to me took every opportunity to shout “Trevor Hall, you’re fire!”  It was pretty amusing.  Hall played several new songs and told the crowd that he has a new live CD that just came out called “Chasing The Flame – On The Road With Trevor Hall.”  Trevor’s lyrics were very positive and I liked the message he was sending to the crowd.  After looking on his official website, I learned that he did a lot of charitable work in India and now I think I like him even more.  He brought his dad, Jeff Hall, on stage to sing on one of the songs and it was a really cute father/son moment.  See more pictures of this gorgeously talented singer after the jump (including a gratuitous armpit hair shot for all my gays!).  And best wishes to you Trevor!

Victor Deme

On July 11, 2010, West African singer Victor Deme opened for reggae legend Jimmy Cliff at Summer Stage in New York’s Central Park.  Demehas performed in clubs and bars in his native hometown of Ouagadougou, the capital of the landlocked West African nation of Burkina Faso, for over 30 years and he’s just released his first album!  His music has elements of the blues, folk and traditional African music.  It didn’t appear that he spoke English very well, so he thanked the crowd in French after each song.  His sound was as colorful as his outfit and both myself and the crowd loved it! His album “Deli” is out now!

Jimmy Cliff!

On July 11, 2010, reggae legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Jimmy Cliff played at Summer Stage in New York’s Central Park.  It was an extremely hot day that had scattered rain showers as the capacity crowd enjoyed sets from Victor Deme and Trevor Hall (more on them coming soon – stay tuned).  As soon as Jimmy Cliff hit the stage, the smell of marijuana permeated the park and the yellow cloud ensured that everyone had a great time and danced throughout the entire show.  Jimmy Cliff played hits such as “You Can Get It If You Want It,” “Sitting in Limbo” and “Many Rivers To Cross.”  I wasn’t sure of a lot of the song titles, and I think the haze made me forget to take notes, so if there are any Jimmy Cliff die-hards reading this, please help with the set list!

Enjoy some more pictures of the legendary Jimmy Cliff after the jump.
