Carney! Lead singer Reeve Carney is currently starring in Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway. On his night off, he performed with his brother Zane in their rock and roll band Carney. The group played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on July 25, 2011 and it was incredible. The brothers Carney are so stylish and good looking that even if you didn’t like their music at all, at the very least you’d have eye candy – but their music rocks! Reeve Carney’s voice reminds me a bit like Jeff Buckley and the songs they play have a very nice rock edge to them. They are known for jamming out on a song for 10 minutes and every member of the 4 piece band is a great musician.
The show began with another member of the very talented Carney family, Paris Carney, serving as the opening act. Her brothers hit the stage around 10 pm and they played my favorites such as “Love Me Chase Me,” “Amelie / Mr. Green,” and they even played a new song entitled “Le Deluge.” Like the last time I saw Carney, they did an amazing cover of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” that melds into “I Want You (She’s So Heavy)” by The Beatles and it is not easy to pull off a good sounding cover of either of those classic tracks. Carney delivers. Stay tuned for a video of that performance! It’s amazing! Carney did a meet and greet with fans after the show and the band members are so cool! Also cool is the fact that Carney will be opening for U2 at selected shows on U2’s latest tour, so it’s only a matter of time until the cat is out of the bag – Carney are great! Spread the word and more importantly, see Carney while you still can at smaller venues – they are going to be huge!
