It must be my good Scissor Sisters karma and love for the band because I always have the greatest time when I see Jake Shears, Ana Matronic, Baby Daddy and Del Marquis perform. July 6, 2012 was no exception as I won tickets to see Scissor Sisters for their first of two shows at Terminal 5. Shout out to one of my favorite websites on the planet, Brooklyn Vegan for such a great prize! In between DJ sets from Scissor Sisters’ DJ Sammy Jo (who spun an excellent Eric Prydz remix of M83’s “Midnight City”), the crowd was entertained by up and coming rapper Rye Rye. Scissor Sisters hit the stage around 10:20 and performed for close to two hours.
There are a few things you ALWAYS get at a Scissor Sisters concert – a great crowd that is ready to have a great time, costume changes, hilarious banter between Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, high energy from the Sisters, lots of skin (and extra skin last night as Scissor Sisters dusted off their classic track “The Skins”). During the first night of their two night stand, Scissor Sisters talked about how great it was to be home (before seguing into the new track “Baby Come Home” off their latest album “Magic Hour), and Ana Matronic said the show is the best they’ve ever played in New York. She mentioned many familiar faces in the crowd that are her family – both blood relatives and people who have stuck with the band through thick and thin. She said that is one of the best parts of the gay community – you don’t have to be related to be family. Amen, Sister!
There was a nice mixture of songs off all the band’s 4 albums. From their self titled debut they performed Take Your Mama, Mary, Comfortably Numb, Music Is The Victim and The Skins. From Ta-Dah, they performed I Don’t Feel Like Dancin and Kiss You Off. From Night Work, they performed Any Which Way, Skin This Cat, Running Out and Invisible Light and from Magic Hour, they performed Baby Come Home, Keep Your Shoes, Inevitable, Year of Living Dangerously, Let’s Have A Kiki, Shady Love and Only The Horses. I am keeping this review short because I am going back for a second helping of Scissor Sisters and I recommend you do the same! You won’t be disappointed!
