That's me on the right.
When I got a call from Polish artist Olek telling me she’s going to be featured in the December issue of Paper Magazine, naturally I was delighted for her. I’ve seen her exhibit “Knitting is for Pu***” at the Christopher Henry Gallery quite a few times as it is definitely one of the best exhibits I’ve seen all year. In fact, many other people agree too and the exhibit has been extended again through the end of November, 2010. You cannot miss it! Olek asked if I would like to reprise my role as a crocheted person and I had such a marvelous experience in the past, I said yes without hesitation.

5 of us gathered inside the crocheted studio apartment at the Christopher Henry Gallery and we did a photo shoot for Paper Magazine.

Once again it was a great experience and so much different than wearing this outfit in public. We hung out inside the studio apartment doing various things and each time we’d walk past a mirror, it was really bizarre to see ourselves covered from head to toe in a crocheted outfit. Her skills in crocheting makes for some of the most clever art I’ve ever seen and still Olek outdoes herself with an outfit made entirely out of balloons! For the last part of the photo shoot, I had the great fortune of an outfit change.
The above image is not the exact outfit I wore, but you can click on the image to enlarge and you can see once again that Olek is so creative and talented! In the outfit I wore, it was a “couples therapy” body suit and I got inside the 2 person suit with a female companion. I was unable to get photos once inside the suit, but when they surface in the magazine, they are going to be awesome!
I cannot stress highly enough that you see this exhibit and you have until the end of November to do so. “Knitting for Pu***” by Olek is at the Christopher Henry Gallery at 127 Elizabeth Street in Manhattan. Also showing is a retrospective of photographer Johnny Rozsa’s work, so you get to see two cool exhibits at the same location!
If you are not in the Manhattan area but you are going to be in Miami from November 30 to December 5, 2010 (at Scope Miami Art Fair), Olek’s crocheted apartment will be on display. I’m told it will be near the cafeteria, so don’t miss it!

Johnny Rozsa at Christopher Henry Gallery in NYC. Now showing through November 28, 2010
There’s no doubt that Johnny Rozsa is a photography legend. He’s taken iconic photos of everyone from Leigh Bowery to Sade to Carmen Electra. In tandem with his latest monograph Untouched, the Christopher Henry Gallery in New York has a must see exhibit of Rozsa’s work. On display are fantastic photos of Boy George, Grace Jones, Robert Mitchum, The Jacksons, Rick James and Leigh Bowery, just to name a few. Rozsa’s photos are from a pre-Photoshop era and the exhibit collects intimate and iconic moments from some of the world’s best loved stars. I attended the gala opening reception and it was quite a scene. I spoke with Johnny Rozsa and he was extremely nice. He even showed me the work-in-progress prototype which inspired Untouched!

In other fantastic news, the “Knitting is for Pu****” exhibit by Olek, which I’ve raved about numerous times before, has been extended due to overwhelming demand! A studio apartment has been built inside the gallery and Olek has crocheted over every single item inside the apartment! It’s one of the most unique exhibits I’ve seen in a really long time and everyone that sees it is blown away by how cool it is. “Knitting is for Pus****” has been extended until November 17, 2010, so make sure you go see this!

It gets better. In addition to two wonderful exhibits, one of my favorite artists, Scooter LaForge has designed a very limited edition T-shirt commemorating the Johnny Rozsa exhibit. There are two designs available and below, you can see the shirt I’ll be sporting on future adventures. These shirts can be purchased at the Christopher Henry Gallery located at 127 Elizabeth Street in Manhattan while supplies last.

Olek and G
Eat your heart out David LaChappelle! I went to check out the must-see exhibit “Knitting is for Pus****” by Olek and to my great fortune, she was at the Christopher Henry Gallery (127 Elizabeth Street in New York) when I arrived. We chatted about many things including Facebook, Los Angeles, and of course, I had the opportunity to tell her how incredible her work is! The exhibit, which runs through October 17, 2010 has a miniature studio apartment on the ground floor of the gallery and every item inside is crocheted by Olek. It’s so cool that you really have to see it to believe it! When I asked to take a photo with her, she not only happily obliged, but I got to literally jump into her world and join her in the bathtub! WOW! As you can see from the above picture, we kept it G-rated. Thanks to Jason L. for the wonderful photo and thanks to Olek for not only creating such great art, but for this picture that will entertain the masses for generations to come!

Knitting is for Pus**** by Olek at the Christopher Henry Gallery. Now through October 17, 2010.
When you thought you’d seen it all, you are not telling the truth until you stop by the Christopher Henry Gallery in New York to check out the “Knitting is for Pus****” exhibit by Polish artist Olek. As if it’s not impressive enough that a miniature studio apartment was built inside the gallery on the ground floor, Olek crocheted every item inside it! It has everything from a bathtub to a bed and all the “art” on the walls of the miniature apartment are comprised of actual text messages that Olek has received.
You might have seen Olek’s work on the streets of New York as she parked some crocheted bikes around the city during the summer (see top picture in that link). As my good fortune would have it, Olek was at the gallery when I stopped by and she advised that residents of Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas will be seeing bikes parked around their respective cities in the very near future, so be on the lookout for those! I’d also like to thank Jason at the Christopher Henry Gallery for taking pictures of Olek and myself that are so awesome, they deserve a separate post. You won’t want to miss those, so stay tuned. Speaking of things not to be missed, do not miss this exhibit! It runs until October 17, 2010 and the Christopher Henry Gallery is located at 127 Elizabeth Street in New York.
