Kylie Minogue is more than a pop princess, she’s a goddess! Her Aphrodite Les Foiles tour rolled into New York on May 2, 2011 for the first of a 3 night run, and even if you don’t care for her music, I cannot recommend strongly enough that you go see her perform. There’s great lights, visuals, costumes and of course, highly addictive dance grooves. You can see pictures, a review and the setlist here. One of the highlights of the show for me (and there were almost too many to name) was Kylie’s cover of Eurythmics’ “There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart).” You can see the video below. I had no idea she’d be performing this song, so I missed the first line. When you hear this dance version of one of my favorite Eurythmics songs, I think you’ll agree that seeing Kylie is non-negotiable when she comes to your town. Kylie plays the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York on May 3 and 4, 2011 – so don’t miss it!
In 2009, when Kylie Minogue performed her first tour in the US, I left her show thinking it was one of the better shows I’d seen that year. 2 years later, Kylie Minogue is back with her Aphrodite Les Foiles Tour and it’s one of the best shows I’ve seen in 2011. Playing the first of 3 nights at New York’s Hammerstein Ballroom, Kylie hit the stage at a very early 8:30 PM. Gone from this tour, were Pink Floyd worthy laser lights and instead replaced with a mythological stage set up that included a golden chariot, a marble statue and a bunch of dancers with amazing bodies who all wore very little.
Kylie!
Kylie played so many hits in remixed versions including a rock version of “Can’t Get You Outta My Head,” a swing version of “Slow” (that finally gave way to a dance version by the end of the song) and also sang an acoustic/dance version of “The Locomotion,” - at the request of the audience. Also played were her classics such as “Better the Devil You Know,” “”I Believe In You,” “Spinning Around,” “On A Night Like This,” “Wow,” “The One” and “In My Arms.” She also focused on playing material for her latest album “Aphrodite,” including “All The Lovers,” “Get Outta My Way” and “Put Your Hands Up,” which saw the entire Hammerstein Ballroom doing just that! Kylie also did 2 covers: Eurythmics’ “There Must Be An Angel Playing With My Heart” (and a video of that is coming soon, so stay tuned) and Prefab Sprout’s “If You Don’t Love Me.”

The Scissor Sisters know how to throw a dance party! On February 4, 2011, Jake Shears and Ana Matronic, two of our beloved Scissor Sisters, were doing a very rare DJ set at the Museum of Natural History in New York. It was a super fun night watching Jake and Ana shake their groove things on stage while the entire museum danced our asses off. Every song they played was thumping and it was definitely a great way to see my friend BB3 usher in his birthday (and have a very happy birthday BB3)! One of the songs we were treated to was a mashup of the Scissor Sisters’ “Invisible Light” mashed up with Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.” The video you are about to see is admittedly not the greatest, but where else are you going to hear this great remix? The answer of course is According2g.com. Check in daily for the very best of the music and art scene in New York!
On stage: Jake Shears, Ana Matronic and DJ Sammy Jo. Get ready to throw yourself a silent rave!
