Lady Gaga and Geoffrey Dicker 2013

Lady Gaga and Geoffrey Dicker 2013

Lady Gaga!  Arguably the biggest star in the music world in 2013 and whether you like her or hate her, she is EVERYWHERE!  She has been rehearsing (pretty close to my house, I might add) for her appearance on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and when word spread that she was in town, Gaga fans from near and far camped out at her studio to get a glimpse of ‘Mother Monster.’   I met Gaga a few years ago when she was first becoming a mega-star and I was so impressed by how nice she was towards her fans.  Since that time, her fame and fan base has only grown exponentially.  By the time she was getting ready to leave, I’d estimate that 100 little monsters had gathered to see Gaga.  Gaga did her best to accommodate everyone and I’d estimate that she took photos with people for a solid 10 minutes, despite being swarmed by fans and paparazzi.  A fan brought her a bottle of champagne and Gaga cracked it open and her and the fan took a swig!  Gaga really did her best to give everyone a little bit of face time and even when my moment came, I was getting swallowed up in the crowd and when Gaga and I made eye contact, she grabbed my arm and pulled me through the crowd so that I could take a photo.  I’m admittedly not the hugest fan of her music, but the way she treats her fans is possibly better than ANYONE I’VE EVER SEEN!  And as you know, from my experiences, that speaks volumes.  I am seriously in awe of how cool Gaga is, and I have so much respect for her because she knows full well that the way she treated all of us that night will always be thought of as a great experience, despite the chaotic situation.  She’s also a champion (and has always been) for gay rights and equality and many people in positions similar to hers are more interested in their paychecks than putting their neck on the line to stand up for what they believe in.  Gaga, you are a class act!!!!  THANK YOU!!!!

Elton John

Oh dear.  Sir Elton has spoken out on his true feelings about Madonna and whether or not you agree, it’s pretty damn funny.

“Sorry, her career is over. Her tour has been a disaster and it couldn’t happen  to a bigger c***. If Madonna had any common sense she would have made a  record like Ray Of Light and stayed away from the dance stuff and just been a  great pop singer and make great pop records, which she does brilliantly. But  no, she had to go and prove… she looks like a f****** fairground stripper. She’s  been horrible to Gaga.” – Elton John

New York!  Ari Lankin’s latest solo exhibition is now showing at Stumble Upon in New York.  I love Ari Lankin’s work so much as he is one of he few artists around these days who is a true master of many styles.  If you follow Ari Lankin’s work you’ve surely seen the fascinating videos on his official website where he shows you the process of his works from inception to completion.  If you haven’t, the link in that last sentence will open in a new window – so get to clicking!  I’ve been fortunate to get to know Ari as a result of this blog and I am so thankful.  Ari is a prince of a guy who is both super cool extremely intelligent to talk to.

This exhibit is the first time so many styles of his work have been shown in the same exhibit and it’s pretty bad ass to be so young and talented and already be having a retrospective of his work.  The exhibit will be up until mid-April, 2012 at Stumble Upon HQ (73 Spring Street between Crosby and Lafayette) in New York by appointment only.  Email to check out this exhibit and I highly recommend it!

“Mom & Dad” by Terry Richardson at Half Gallery

Mom and Dad by Terry Richardson

Mom and Dad by Terry Richardson. Now showing at Half Gallery in New York through December 4, 2011

Ever wondered what Terry Richardson’s family album might look like?  Wonder no more.  His exhibit “Mom and Dad” at Half Gallery in New York is here!  The photos are taken from a 2-volume coffee table book that was published earlier this year.  The photos could only be Terry Richardson’s parents as the artsy photos range from touching portraits to desperate times.  Terry’s parents divorced when he was young and his father has since passed on so this was Terry’s way of bringing his folks back together – even if only for the duration of an exhibit.

The opening night reception (on 11/11/11) was quite a scene and I spotted former REM singer Michael Stipe in the crowd.

And of course, Terry Richardson was also in attendance.  As always, he’s a really cool guy.  In other Terry Richardson news, Terry and Lady Gaga are releasing a collaborative book and they are going to be signing copies at the New Museum in New York on November 22, 2011.  You have to purchase the book in person on November 15, 2011 beginning at 10 am.  That’s going to be quite a scene.  Find out more details on the New Museum’s website.

Thanks Terry!  Love you, man!  “Mom and Dad” by Terry Richardson is showing at the Half Gallery (located at 208 Forsyth) in Manhattan until December 4, 2011.
