Oh Hey - James Murphy and Geoffrey Dicker

This story is just too good to save for my autobiography.  On April 30, 2011, I was at the closing night party of the Fiat Gallery in New York.  Knowing former LCD Soundsystem front man James Murphy would be in attendance, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to have him autograph a photo I took of us a few weeks ago.  I spotted James Murphy in the crowd and I said “Hey James.”  He replied with “Oh Hey.”  He looked up and saw my face and remembered me from a few weeks ago, so with a stronger inflection, he again said “Ohh Hey!”  I then asked him to autograph the above photo and when he saw it, he confirmed he remembered the encounter by saying “Ohhhh Hey!”  As he handed me back the signed photo, he pointed out the inscription he wrote on it – “Oh Hey, James Murphy.”

So awesome!  My friend and I laughed about it all night long and it’s possible that “Oh Hey,” might be the new “Take it with your hand.”

Thanks again James!

On April 30, 2011, the Fiat Gallery in New York (also the former Deitch Projects) threw one hell of a closing night party.  Free hors d’oeuvres and cocktails were flowing and the crowd was treated to a half hour set by Jamie Lidell.  Former LCD Soundsystem front man James Murphy also did a DJ set.  Unfortunately, I had a previous engagement, so I was unable to stay for the entire party, but upon encountering Murphy, he remembered me from a few weeks ago when we met and he said “Oh Hey” to me.  I presented a photo I wanted him to autograph, which he immediately recognized and after seeing it, he said “oh hey.”  Naturally, on the photo, he wrote “oh hey, James Murphy.”  So cool!  Now back to Jamie Lidell. The countdown to the final LCD Soundsystem show is days away.  I met the soon to be former lead singer, James Murphy.  I couldn’t resist and I said to him “This is the part where I beg you not to break up the group.”  He smiled and waved goodbye to the past in the photo he was so kind enough to take with me.  Thanks James and just know that if you decide to reunite, we’ll be waiting!  LCD Soundsystem’s final shows are March 30 and 31, 2011 at Terminal 5 and the final show will be April 1, 2011 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

James Murphy, lead singer of the soon to be disbanded LCD Soundsystem, gets the quote and the AMEN! of the day:

“That black eyed peas dirty dancing thing is worse than raping a cat. What is wrong with people? Do they hate ears?” [in reference to the Black Eyed Peas song “The Time (Dirty Bit)”] – James Murphy via Twitter (and a billion websites who have reposted these pearls).

If you didn’t get tickets to the final LCD Soundsystem show at Madison Square Garden, don’t worry.  The band has announced 4 additional shows at New York’s Terminal 5.  The shows will take place on March 28, 29, 30, 31, 2011. No word on when tickets will go on sale.  In the meanwhile, get your final LCD Soundsytem fix by picking up the new Spin Magazine, where James Murphy from LCD Soundsystem is pictured on the cover.  It’s doubtful that sales of the issue will crash websites or cause people to scalp copies of the issue for over 1000 times of the cover price (like their MSG show tickets did).
