You know you’re in for a special treat when New York legend Lee Chappell throws a party. Foreign Affairs – A Cabaret for the 21st Century, is musical candy for the eyes and the ears. Hosted by the fabulous Isengart and Lady Rizo, this show features some of the most talented performers this decade has seen. Tonight’s show was a tribute to Lee Chappell, who was celebrating his birthday. The packed house was treated to over 2 hours of performances by Lady Rizo, Isengart, Corey Tut, Julie Atlas Muz and Amber Martin, just to name a few. Each week at the cabaret you can expect surprise performers from Joey Arias to Alan Cumming.

Tonight’s show featured Isengart singing the Beatles’ “Rocky Racoon” and The Doors’ “Light My Fire,” two of my favorite songs, so you know I was going wild. It only got better as Lady Rizo sang Nena’s “99 Red Balloons” and Leonard Cohen’s “I’m Your Man.” Burlesque legend Julie Atlas Muz did a striptease for the begging crowd and served the birthday boy cake in the sexiest way possible. Amber Martin sang the hell out of Janis Joplin’s “Turtle Blues” and I know Janis was looking in on our party smiling (and toasting us with her bottle of Southern Comfort) wherever she is.

The final performance of Foreign Affairs at the Night Hotel will be December 2, 2009 before it moves to its new location in Downtown Manhattan in 2010. When dates and venues are available, you’ll hear about it here. What a night! And many happy returns, Lee!
