I have a new band crush!   Scottish/British quartet Django Django played a sold out show at New York’s Bowery Ballroom on October 2, 2012 and it was love at first listen.  The band is of course getting major media buzz and a Mercury Prize nomination for their self-titled debut, but I decided I would let them stand before me as I heard their music for the first time.

The band came out wearing matching shirts, which would have probably convinced me without hearing a note, but once the lights went down, the night just got better and better.  Their music could be described as psychedelic-folk-rock, which to me was surprisingly a good thing.   Lead singer Vincent Neff said that he was going to take us on a journey and he did not lie!   The musicianship of the band was great and the group looked like they were having the time of their lives. (Side note: I met the band after the show and I can confirm, they were not faking it!)

This show marked Django Django’s 2nd time in New York and they said they love it here so much, they want to move here!  That would be awesome, so get in touch with the band if you can help make it happen!

But before Django Django (and the band name has nothing to do with Django Reinhardt, by the way) rocked my world, Brooklyn (via San Francisco)’s dance trio Lemonade opened the show.  If dance/pop is your thing, you should definitely check out Lemonade.  Upon reading up more on Lemonade, I am impressed that they completely improvised their very early gigs, thus giving them the impetus to continue making music together.  Very inspirational!  Their drummer mentioned that he was in jail last weekend and didn’t explain more.  Inquiring minds want to know!  Thanks to Lemonade and Django Django for a great night of music.

See the setlist after the jump.

Lemonade

Thanks to Maria for hipping me to this cool documentary.

Lemonade is a 35 minute documentary about some Ad Execs who were living the phony “American Dream,” when suddenly they were laid-off fired.  They turned their lemon-scented existences into lemonade as they no longer had to work for the man and they have decided to do something productive with their lives.  I can totally relate.  For those that have found themselves jobless right now, how are you coping?  I keep seeing on news websites that “things are improving.”  According2G, I think it’s a bunch of bullshit.  But then again, that’s why you keep coming back to this site – because you don’t need the mainstream media to fill your head full of lies.  According2G will tell you everything you need to know… from A to G.  I thank you for your continued support.
