Greg Craola Simkins and Dabs Myla Mural
I was very excited to see a mural by Greg Craola Simkins and Dabs Myla in Downtown Los Angeles (at 7th and Mateo). Perhaps not new to the city, but since I live in New York and don’t make it out this way too often, it was new to me! Located nearby is another mural from Dabs Myla.

Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads by Ai Weiwei. Now showing at Grand Army Plaza in NYC through July 15, 2011
Artist Ai Weiwei is in captivity at the moment (and here is some info that may help rescue him), but his pre-planned outdoor installation Circle of Animals / Zodiac Heads launched in New York this week according to schedule. Located at the entrance to Central Park at Grand Army Plaza (on 59th Street and 5th Avenue), Weiwei created 12 sculptures representing the animals in the Chinese Zodiac. Each sculpture weighs 800 pounds.

The exhibit will be on display 24 hours a day until July 15, 2011. Hopefully, the artist will get to see the finished work in person. Free Ai Weiwei!

The Andy Monument by Rob Pruitt.
Artist Rob Pruitt is paying tribute to Andy Warhol at the former site of Warhol’s Factory in Manhattan. Entitled “The Andy Monument,” the sculpture will be on display until October 2, 2011 at the corner of 17th and Broadway in New York City. In case you were wondering, the former location for The Factory is now a Petco! Ugh!

Banksy in Los Angeles
A few weeks ago, Banksy lifted one leg and brought street art onto the lips and minds of everyone. He put up several pieces in Los Angeles. Some were stolen, some have survived. Since I live 3000 miles away and I don’t make it out to the City of Angels and Banksys too often, I was only able to find one in tact. This one is located at 9930 Little Santa Monica Blvd.
If you look closely, you’ll see a Banksy within a Banksy. A documentary called docoBanksy has been found and you can learn more about it here.

Los Angeles! Do not miss “Community Service,” a group art show featuring four of your favorite street artists. X, Mar, Dog Byte, AJL and Alec Monopoly’s works have all been seen on the streets all over the world, but now, you can see their work – gallery style. Over 40 canvases are on display and both the space and art is extremely cool so I urge you to check this out.
