One of the most anticipated albums of the year, Cults by the group with the same name, is out today!  I saw Cults earlier this year and I loved them!  In a really bizarre, but things like this happen to me all the time moment, I was at a party several months after seeing Cults live and I met lead singer Madeline Follin’s mother.  It turns out she’s from Whittier, where I graduated from college!  In another surreal moment, I found out she was Madeline’s mom when she advised “You’ve written about my daughter before.”  Wow!  Great music.  Great people.  Great experience!  I think both the album and the band Cults are going to be huge and I wish them all the success in the world.  If you are unfamiliar with their music, just click play below for a live video of “the Curse” from when I saw Cults at Mercury Lounge earlier this year.  Enjoy!

On March 31, 2011, New York based band Cults played a sold out show at Mercury Lounge.  If you’ve never heard them before, imagine the music of the Mamas and the Papas with Janis Joplin on lead vocals!  Holy cow!  I became an instant fan after the first song!  Their music is short and every track is catchy.  Occasionally, lead singer Madeline Follin shares vocal duties with Brian Oblivion (I hope that’s really his name because it’s awesome!). I think this is definitely a band to watch.  Though they are a tricky band to Google, I think it’s pretty safe to say, when Cults’ album is released in May 2011, they are going to have a huge cult following (pun definitely intended).  Final analysis: tough to Google, easy to love.
