I just witnessed history for the second time in 2 days! Last night, I saw Sir Paul McCartney perform the first ever concert at Citi Field (the new Shea Stadium) and tonight, I saw the Mandela Day 46664 show at Radio City Music Hall. Because there were so many great artists performing tonight, I’ll be dedicating a new post to each one, but in the meanwhile, enjoy this picture from the All-Star Jam at the end of the show. Who were the performers you ask? Gloria Gaynor, Angelique Kidjo, Baba Maal, Alicia Keys, Jesse McCartney (no relation to Sir Paul), Wyclef Jean, Zucchero, Will i. Am, Cyndi Lauper, Lil Kim, Queen Latifah, Dave Stewart, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Josh Groban, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder! The A-List presenters included Tim Robbins, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Forrest Whitaker, Morgan Freeman and Billie Jean King.
The purpose of Mandela Day is not just to celebrate the birthday of one of the world’s greatest humanitarians, but also to encourage all of us to do random acts of kindness, no matter how small, to help make the world a better place. Promise yourself (we’ll all look away whilst you do that), that you’ll do your part.
