“Failures” by Marc Seguin

The Mike Weiss Gallery in New York is currently exibiting “Failures” by Canadian artist Marc Seguin. Using images of war, churches in ruin, assassins and religious figures, Seguin portrays moments in time that are marked by the abscence of success. His works are done with ash, charcoal and oil on raw canvas and from far away, they all look like photographs.
I really enjoyed this exhibit, both for the amazing detail of the works and for the concepts that it made me think about long after I left the gallery. One of my favorite works in “Failures” is pictured below and it features a skull made out of feathers. Its placement inside a church is one of the biggest failures of all time – lives senselessly lost over religion.
“Failures” by Marc Seguin is now showing at Mike Weiss Gallery in New York until April 30, 2011. The gallery is located at 520 West 24th Street in Manhattan. Don’t miss it!
