The other night I attended the opening night gala reception for Marilyn Minter’s “Paintings from the 80s” exhibit at Team Gallery. I was enjoying the show and hanging out with my friend Jason, when his keen sense of artist spotting pointed me in the direction of American photographer Cindy Sherman! I am such a big fan of her work and though she often appears as the subject in her own works, I would have missed this great opportunity to meet her without Jason. Thanks for that J! And thanks to Cindy Sherman for being really down to earth when we chatted.

Sometimes even I don’t believe my uncanny sense of timing. I went to Los Angeles a couple of weeks ago and one of the first exhibits I went to see was Scott Campbell’s “Noblesse Oblige” show at the Oh Wow Gallery (which runs until April 22, 2011 and is a must see!). I was with my Dad and we loved it when we saw it in person and days later we were talking about how glad we were to have seen it. One of the highlights of the show are these stacks of uncut sheets of dollar bills that Scott Campbell carves all kinds of intricate designs into. Flash forward a week later when I was at the opening for Marilyn Minter’s exhibit “Paintings from the 80s” (which runs until the end of April) at the Team Gallery in New York and I spotted Scott Campbell in the crowd! I told him the above story and he was so cool to talk to. Thanks again Scott both for a great experience and for making such great art!
