Samuel.

New York based singer Samuel opened for Marina and the Diamonds for her debut performance in the United States on March 14, 2010 at the Bell House in Brooklyn.  His music fuses electro and hip hop and his voice is very soulful.  He was recently signed to Columbia Records, and while there is currently no release date scheduled for his debut album, he’s become a much sought-after guest vocalist and producer.  His track “I Heart New York,” is a glam love song to the city we all love so much.  You can download 2 free mp3s of Samuel doing guest vocals on the tracks “Fader” and “Starry Eyed” here.  Alternately, you can download a free mp3 of “Fader” on the Neon Gold Records official blog.

Samuel - easy to like, hard to find on Google.

Prior to going on stage for her first ever performance in the United States, I met the wonderfully talented and fabulous Marina Diamandis better known as the lead singer of Marina and the Diamonds.  She’s just about to become huge here in the US, but already she’s scored massive success in Europe with her hits ‘Hollywood’ and ‘I am not a Robot.’  Not only is she a great singer, but she’s incredibly gorgeous, plus how can you not love her outfit?  I am looking forward to hearing more great things about Marina and I thank her for being so cool.

Marina and the Diamonds

On March 14, 2o1o, Marina and the Diamonds played their first ever show in the United States at Brooklyn’s Bell House.  The Welsh singer Marina Diamandis (which means “Diamonds” in Greek), has already scored a number 1 hit in the UK with her song “Hollywood” and she’s about to be the next biggest thing in the United States. Her music can be described as bits of Gwen Stefani and Kate Bush mixed with glam pop and piano ballads. She’s released 3 EPs and 1 full-length album in the UK, but her debut “The Family Jewels” isn’t scheduled for a stateside release until May of 2010.  This didn’t stop the sold out crowd from singing along to her songs such as “I am a Not a Robot,” “Mogwli’s Road,” and the UK smash “Hollywood.”  She told the crowd how excited she was to be performing for us and everyone showered her with an equal amount of love.  If her performance tonight was any indication of her future success, this diamond in the rough is poised for a huge career.  See some more pictures as well as the set list after the jump. Stay tuned to see a picture of my encounter with Marina (she was totally cool!)
